The Neigbourhood Stage

The Neighbourhood Stage is something that welcomes everyone in the Byward Market. The building has charter restaurants and conference spaces to
rent out for events, increasing the use of the space throughout the day, making the building a place to come to at all times. There is a bar and
conference rooms that have great views overtop of the street and a patio area for summer activities. The entrance and foyer provides an area for
individuals to commune before and after a show. The idea behind the space is keeping the overall profile of the building low to avoid dominating the
environment around it. The building is devised so access for staff is easy and does not involve coming through public spaces of the building. The
orientation of the building allows the sun to come in through the west side as the sun sets on the commercial space and rooftop patio. The front
walkway is cantilevered to provide shelter, and to create a moment of suspense before entering the lofted foyer. The materiality demonstrates translucent
and opaque materials to create a contrast, also using the size of metal cladding panels to create moments of tension as you walk down William Street.
William Street is now converted into a pedestrian corridor and creates a unique use for the “back” of the building.
