SUB
Sustainability, UWell, Accessibility
With two potential objectives of the SUB redesign, the primary goal was to collect informed research to further evaluate an appropriate direction. Two potential objectives included a focus on the food court space with the other being a focus on accessibility throughout the entire main floor. Utilizing past data from students assessing the sustainability of the space, it was also essential to ensure the space either maintained or improved it’s UWELL rating. Through our collective research in fall 2021, our group identified the food court as the most pressing concern specifically within the realm of accessibility.
The research we conducted was very in depth, but consistently presented issues with accessibility of the physical space, in addition to a lack of accessibility considerations for auditory, visual, or neurological conditions, etc. With the time frame we were given for the project, it was broken up into two terms with the first used for strictly research and the second for the design stage. In addition to accessibility considerations and the foodcourt layout, it was important to consider various of our secondary research concepts such as winter city design, biophillic, etc. These design concepts will be discussed and how they implemented our final design decisions.
